Alberta Immigration Nomination Program

Alberta is the most populous prairie province of Canada. Alberta’s capital is Edmonton and Calgary is its largest city. The foreign nationals with skills and abilities to fill jobs in Alberta can apply for permanent residency through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) under Alberta’s Provincial Nomination Program. The available sub-categories under AINP are:

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream
  • Alberta Express Entry Stream
  • Alberta Self Employed Farmer Stream

Alberta Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) is one of Alberta’s PNP categories for applicants who hold a job offer from an employer in Alberta. It provides a gateway to permanent residence for temporary foreign workers in Alberta who meet eligibility criteria on their language skills, academics and work experience in Canada. Candidates can apply for permanent residence to the federal government of Canada after receiving a nomination under Alberta Opportunity Stream. AOS is not oriented with Express Entry, means that candidates cannot take advantage of the 6-month average processing times of Express Entry. International graduates who have completed their studies from a designated Alberta post-secondary institution are also eligible for this category.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows Alberta to nominate a limited number of eligible candidates from the Government of Canada’s Express Entry pool for permanent residency. Qualified skilled workers strongly confined to Alberta with past education or work (Alberta Experience) involvement and help to support the government’s economic development and diversification priorities may be asked to submit an application to apply for permanent residency in Canada through this program. International graduates from Canadian post-secondary institutions may also be asked to submit an application under this stream. Once an Alberta nomination is received, applicant receives 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent draw from the Express Entry candidate pool.

Alberta Self Employed Farmer Stream

AINP Self-Employed Farmer Stream focuses to allure the foreign nationals aspired to set up a farming business in Alberta. The eligible applicants must exhibit farm management skills and sufficient financial resources to invest in a primary production farming business in Alberta. Applicants to the Self-Employed Farmer stream must meet the following criteria but meeting these criteria does not guarantee a nomination or permanent residence. Applicants must prove that they have farm management skills. Proof of this may include, but is not limited to:

  • financial documentation of an on hand farm business
  • credentials of education, training and work experience
  • a proposed business plan for the farming endeavor you are considering in Alberta
  • proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your anticipated farming business

Applicants must be able to invest a minimum of CDN $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta. Documents must be provided that show a minimum net worth of CDN $500,000 or confirmation of the ability to access to a similar amount of funds from other sources. Applicants may be required to show the ability to invest more than the minimum.
