A preview of Canadian immigration in 2022
Canadian Immigration has set immigration goals for the year 2022. The pandemic has caused Canada to constantly update its travel restrictions, it has also created greater backlogs of applications, and it has shifted its policies to give priority to applicants within Canada. However, despite the pandemic, the Canadian government remains committed to its three objectives of strengthening the economy, reuniting families, and assisting those in need.
In 2022, two immigration-level plans are very likely to be announced in Canada. Canada’s immigration targets will be outlined in the plans along with which programs will welcome the new immigrants. According to the current plan, Canada will welcome 411,000 new immigrants in 2022 and 421,000 in 2023, although these numbers may change when the federal government reveals its new immigration plans.
Minister Fraser is scheduled to table Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024 on February 10. This announcement usually occurs each autumn but has been delayed due to the Canadian election in September 2021. After the second announcement, which is a normal one, unless Canada holds another election, it will be announced by November 1st.
